For comparison, here's a shot from the Luohu district, I would say it's the old center of Shenzhen. It is true that it is developing and for some time the visible building (still under construction) has been the tallest skyscraper, but it is already too crowded. Urban concepts are certainly limited by the border with Hong Kong, the river and the railway route. Although, as I know the Chinese, the river could also be moved, and the border is just a formality.
