...while in Shanghai, Shenzhen or Hong Kong taxis are relatively well-kept and clean, in the provinces they are terrible. Torn door handles, nasty covers on the seats, the smell of cigarettes, and in the worst case scenario, a leaky floor and the smell of engine exhaust fumes. Despite this, every taxi rushes through cities and towns regardless of any regulations. Sometimes they can block traffic on the main street, knock down a cyclist, or hit three pedestrians just to stop and catch a passenger. Of course, the quality of services equals the price, and in the case of provincial towns in Hunan, the price of a taxi is PLN 2 (and the towns are small, so for PLN 5 you can travel through them in their entirety).
