Dongmen (Laojie) is an old market, the oldest part of Shenzhen. A few hundred years ago, Shenzhen was a small town, mainly fishing and farming (today 10 million people). This plaque commemorates the former market, when Shenzhen supplied Hong Kong (mainly with food, maybe textiles too I suppose).
